Wealthy Thai Restaurant
Cuisine: Thai
The great Food Debate
We decided to try this Thai restaurant on Sunday, as we heard many reviews on it. Its called Wealthy Thai. I suppose the owner must be rich so they decided to call it Wealthy Thai, I had half expected the price to be really steep. I mean how they could they be wealthy unless they charge us really high. Well for once i was wrong. The food was in thai - "Mai Pang" - not expensive !
But seriously, this restaurant where me and esther had a great debate... about what is Thai food and not thai food. For the life of me, how would i know that Duck and Snow pea is not thai food. Esther reckons that going ordering Duck and snow pea is like going to a chinese restaurant and ordering Fish and chips. So you can imagine it was like crossing a great divide between us on food issue.
Well i do believe every Chef should be allowed to be creative and come out with dishes that are inspired by the local produce but cook using technique unique to the country. So, i did not see the problem with Duck and snow pea cooked in thai style, but we sort of reach a compromise so i let her order.
Anyway ! this is a review on Wealthy Thai. - 6/10 overall
The food were pretty unique. The Tom Yam Fried rice was delicious, a hint of spice and the rice cooked beautifully and the flavour permeated through the dish. If you go there to try here is my recommendation. If you bring a thai along, let them order, but most dishes we ordered it was pretty reasonable
THAI TOM YAM FRIED RICE - This is a must try 7/10
TOM YAM SOUP - A little on the sour side, the secondary flavour was missing. Not the best i have tried
Steam Chicken with rice noodle. - It was passable 5.5/10
Steamed Veg with Peanut sauce - Was their specialty but just ordinary vegetable lavished with peanut and coconut sauce.
So if you go please try the Kai Yang or grilled chicken which i missed out and the Duck with Snow pea. Let me know what you think. Its price is really cheap compared to the other Thai restaurant, so its a real plus for those who want to indulge and have not much money to spend.
