Toby's Restaurant - Dunsborough

Caves Road
Dunsborough WA 6281
Australia

During our stay in Dunsborough, at the Wyndham Spa and Resort we chanced upon this restaurant at the resort. My initial thoughts were this must be one of those, " suck your money" really expensive and really mundane food. Well call me crazy but what a find !!

A careful look along the reception, made my eyes twinkle, it actually won awards ! Well, normally we have to take everything with a pinch of salt. So we decided to give it a go and find it for ourselves

For starters we ordered Japanese Slippers, don't ask me why its called Japanese slippers but if its Japanese we will try it. And seriously its how a Japanese likes it STRONG !

WHAT A SLIPPER !

Then came a mini-surprise ! Free Scallop !! Yes you heard right !! FREE ! Its a chef special but what an interesting combination - Watermelon Sorbet, with fresh seared scallop and orange slice. Sweet, Savory and Citrus. It was unique i might add

NOW THE APPETIZER ! DELICIOUS !

Oyster Kilpatrick - What a find ! By far one of the freshest and most succulent oysters ! Much better than those from Victoria Station and Equinox ! About as good as Oyster Bar ! As you can see not the limpy bacon from Equinox - read blog below.

Salt and Szechuan dusted squid - Unique food with sambal chutney. The sambal was not really my cup of tea. But the squid was perfectly cooked with the hint of spice. The noodle and sides went well with the squid. BUT ! The OYSTER KILPATRICK was still a hit

THE MAIN - WHAT A COMBO !

( Seared fillet, Tempura Soft Shell Crab , Sweet potato Mash, vegetable with Bearnaise sauce and seared Cherry Tomato

Now if you must try, this is one dish you must not miss. Its delicious when eaten individually but heavenly when you put bits of the crab, beef and a little mash. It takes some vision to put all these taste together !

THE GLUTTON END ! - Tiramitsu Flavoured Cream with Biscotti Biscuit and some Rose thingy

This one I was being a little naughty as i wanted to try something sweet ! Well, all i can say is the taste definitely was there but the cream was a little on the hard side. Maybe it was a little too long in the freezer. But with the highs of the oyster and the mains, who was complaining ! Try something else if you are there . Give this a miss

Conclusion

Well if you are in Busselton, drop by this restaurant but only if you willing to spend, this meal cost slightly less than $100, So unless you are willing to spend, give this a pass but if you are up there with the big boys. Then by all means 7.5 /10 is my rating
