Karratha, here i come

Yes, i am flying to karratha today, and No, i am not intending to work there. Karratha is now the place to be if you want to earn your million fast. Looking at the pays of some of the workers there, you begin to wonder why you have to study at all.

Thats the funny thing, here in Australia, you can earn a director's pay even if you have not much education. Skill is supposedly a highly sought after commodity, where even a toilet cleaner or a "specialized"road sweeper can earn more than your average graduate. Here is australia, your parents would be proud if you are a painter, road sweeper, toilet cleaner, lollip woman, or a brick layer, but in asia these are the lowest paid workers around. Makes you wonder, which country is more developed.

I am finally going there to see the land of gold, and find out for myself why this small little village can pack such a punch where even the houses are worth over $1million, its more expensive than your typical house in perth. I shall bring photos of my expedition to this strange phenomenon.

But what can i say, if you fail in life, but still want a director salary lets say about $140K a year. There is still hope.

The biggest Story in my Country

Been following this story since it began. for those who did not know, this is the first case ever in Singapore that a suspected terrorist escaped while in custody. The last time i went back, i was told of some theories that was behind his apparent escape. The mystery really deepens, as up till know despite a huge manhunt, we are still unable to find him, even though he has a limp.

His escape is the stuff of movies, maybe my brother Kris can do a movie on this


Here are some interesting fact

1. Mas Selamat has a limp and could not run fast

2. The windows to the ground was quite high and small

3. Mas selamat was wearing 2 clothes during his escape, one he threw over the toilet door to mislead the guards standing outside

4. The CCTV was apparently not working on the day

5. He scaled 2 fences .... and ran into the dense jungle

6. He is a master of disguise and may have already escape to Johor

7. His escape was done in less than 10 minutes despite his limp

8. No one in the place saw his escape

What a story..... this will definitely make a good movie ... there is 2 theories currently in place
Either he really did escape or he died during interrogation and this was all a cover-up

Some have called for the minister in charge of Home Affairs to step down but in Singapore point of view we cannot fire people just because something happen, but unfortunately someone still got to take the rap, so guess what, the report just came out which i had posted earlier.

So in conclusion, stuff like do happen to very efficient Singapore.

Superintendent sacked, Gurkha guards demoted Who's to blame for terrorisas Selamat Kastari's escape from the Whitley Road Detention Centre two months ago? Yesterday, in Parliament, Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng gave details of the disciplinary action taken May 28, 2008

SACKED The windows of the toilet that Mas Selamat escaped from at Whitley Road Detention Centre on 27 Feb. Picture: MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS Superintendent of WRDC Who he is: The most senior officer in charge of ground management at Whitley Road Detention Centre (WRDC). His rank was equivalent to that of a Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Lieutenant-Colonel. Why he's to blame: He should have told the renovation contractor to install grilles on the ventilation window in the toilet of the Family Visitation Block. Instead, he asked for the window's handle to be sawn off in the 'mistaken belief that it was a sufficient security measure'. This, Mr Wong said, was a 'serious error'. And it gave Mas Selamat the chance to escape. The superintendent was also held responsible for the lack of supervision over his subordinates, whose lapses led to the escape. DEMOTED Deputy superintendent of WRDC Who he is: The second most senior officer in charge of ground management at WRDC. His rank was equivalent to an SAF Major. Why he's to blame: He lacked supervision over his subordinates whose lapses led to the escape. Apart from being demoted, he also got a pay cut. SACKED Special Duty Operative (SDO) at WRDC Who she is: Junior officer whose job is to make arrangements for family visits, including supervising the movement of detainees from the cell to the family visit room. Why she's to blame: She failed to take 'immediate and decisive action' after the guards alerted her about the escape. She also did not observe proper procedures, for instance, in the 'accurate registration of clothes that were personal to (Mas Selamat) and WRDC-issued clothes'. 'That was why Mas Selamat was able to wear more than one layer of clothes on the day of his escape,' Mr Wong noted. REPRIMANDED SDO's supervisor ALSO RELIEVED OF SUPERVISORY DUTIES Who he is: Senior officer holding a rank equivalent of Inspector of Police or an SAF lieutenant. Why he's to blame: He failed to do a proper security assessment of the detainees' use of the toilet at the Family Visitation Block. His letter of reprimand will be entered into his service record and will have a negative impact on his future career. WARNED Technical officer at WDRC Who he is: He was responsible for the CCTV upgrading at WRDC. Why he's to blame: Though the new CCTV system had yet to be commissioned at the time of the escape, he should have ensured that the vendor had correctly carried out the instructions so that the system was recording. His letter of warning will be a black mark on his service record and will affect his future career. WARNED Chief Warder at WRDC Who she is: She was the one who approached the superintendent to let detainees use the toilet at the Family Visitation Block. Why she's to blame: Though she was not directly involved in the incident, as an experienced officer, she should have considered the security implications of allowing detainees to use that toilet. Her letter of warning will be a black mark on her service record and will affect her future career. DEMOTED Two Gurkha guards Who they are: They escorted Mas Selamat to the toilet from where he escaped. They were charged by the police and pleaded guilty. Why they're to blame: They allowed Mas Selamat to change out of sight and let him close the door of the urinal cubicle. They also failed to act immediately after they found Mas Selamat missing. RELIEVED OF POSITION ISD's command director Who he is: The WRDC superintendent and administration staff members reported to him. He reported directly to the ISD director and oversaw several distinct functional divisional units, of which WRDC was one. His rank was equivalent to a Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police or an SAF Brigadier-General. Why he's to blame: The Committee of Inquiry (COI) found that he was not at fault, and that he had in fact made several improvements to WRDC. While Mr Wong accepted the COI's assessment, he still decided to relieve the command director of the position on 24 Apr. He explained: 'Even though he was not responsible for the lapses of specific officers down the line, he bears responsibility on account of his statutory appointment as officer-in-charge of WRDC.' For the best Teriyaki beef - Kabuki ( in Victoria Park)

- this is the only place where i find they use the thin sliced beef which when grilled taste absolutely delicious

For the best Hokkien Prawn Noodle or a.k.a Rochor Mee - Munch Terrace in the city

- The reason its so tasty lard ! Its absolutely heavenly

For the best steak - Hogs Breath Cafe

- Why ! Simple the steak was slow cooked for 16 hours

For the best Roast Pork / Roast Duck - Good one ( Victoria Park)

- Simply because its crispy on the outside and moist on the inside

For the Chilli pepper pork - I would give this to Happy Meals also another signature dish Treasure Chicken

- These 2 is a must have ... very tasty

For the best beef dish - the one i had the deepest impression is the one along Farrington road. Apparently the chef used to cook in burswood

Best Thai - Sawaonee Restaurant : Best dish is still the crispy fish with pepper sauce.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY

Our friend Edith's birthday was on Sunday, it was a happy occasion for her i believe. We celebrated on Sat night during the dinner and gave her a pedicure set, i do hope she will use it to her fullest potential.

The photo is abit shaky as they were moving around alot but. as you can see, she still looks young. As ladies don't really like to reveal their age, We have decided to spare her the agony of putting the exact candles on the cake.

So for guys out there, if you ever want to make a lady happy remember, the number of candle diminishes with age after the lady hit her prime, which is about 30 years old or 30 short stick candles, then from there after, take one out after each year, when she reaches 60, there should be only 1 candle left.....

Its been awhile since i watched Naruto, but its really addictive possibly the best anime, even my wife enjoy watching it, can u imagine. If my wife watch it, then it must be good.
If you have not watched it before, then start from the first series, the current series called Shippuden is still running in Japan.

Crystal Palace Revisited

Yes, after my first foray into Joondalup restaurants, i thought i revisit this one again. And true to their name. It was tasty and sublime. I used to think restaurants with red doors, red pillars and red lanterns are more suitable for the local Australians who wants to experience a little bit of chinese culture without concern over the taste of the food.

My personal philosophy was that if the restaurant had more Aussies than Asian it was one of those household cooks trying to pass off chinese cuisines masquerading it with chinese names like chicken chow mien , long soup/ short soup ( both of which never exist in any restaurant back in Singapore), or things like mongolian lamb. Frankly if you want good chinese food, look inside a restaurant and if there are more chinese in there you know you are in a right place.

So can u imagine my utter surprise when we awere the only 2 asian tables in the whole restaurant and right across the road was one shop which all the asian went, but this was not my only surprise. The food in the restaurant was beautifully cooked, granted its not like top of the range , exquisite cooking but the idea that there are dishes on the menu that are unique to the restaurant tells much about the cook. Unfortunately i am unable to try the fried rice, which is my way of testing the cooks skill.

Spare ribs... this one was reasonable tasty, cannot go wrong if fried well




Nice chicken dish, i think something with claypot. I would recommend this



Beef with Kailan ... only different is they use shrimp paste




This chicken is nice... i am not sure what its called but i am sure its one of their specialty.

If you are in Joondalup, i can recommend this place. Reasonable on your wallet, the place looks posh enough to impress your friends, YOUR BROTHER or of course YOUR GIRLFRIEND....
Unless of course you plan to move south, and stay somewhere in Leach highway. But in any case, a good place to eat 7/10

MANCHESTER ! CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE

What a night of Drama ! It was well worth it to miss my sleep for this night of history. It was great too to have some of the guys over to share in the jubilation. I thought in the first-half that we were going to stroll into the championship, but as usually Manchester united always seem to like to take the difficult route.

The misses by Carlos Teves would have been crucial, if not for the great help from the goalkeeper's best friend. Not the defenders this time, but the goal post. I could count the post saving us on 3 occasions.

One was the shot by Drogba, then Lampard's swirling kick in the box and the last but not least John Terry's inexplicable miss from the spot-kick. Somehow i feel the ball seem to gravitate towards the post every time Chelsea shot. Maybe its really Manchester's destiny to win the double.

It would have been a cruel injustice if they had not won, as Manchester had been a better team all season. But what a way to end the league with a penalty shoot-out, for once i thought the miss by Ronaldo would be back to haunt us. All i can say is its our destiny.

Saviour the moment ! And EURO Championship will be round the corner. ..... 5th June.... more soccer.

Recently one of my house mate started writing for an internet website. As he is a comic fan, his review is of course about comic. He is a great writer, i was quite surprise by his illustrations. Especially the new book he intends to publish using Comics as an illustration on Christian life. Crystal Palace in Joondalup

Just last Sunday, we were introduced to this restaurant near Joondalup, the place was called Crystal Palace. We had given it a pass on many occasions, as it looked really more for local taste rather than for Chinese taste bud.

But, you cannot judge the book by its cover, appearance are deceptive. I was pleasantly surprised by the interesting dishes on the menu. And i can only say its not too bad.

Bad English Translation in China

The Beijing Olympic is around the corner, my friend send me some very enthusiastic people trying to translate Chinese to English. The problem i found even on my visit to Japan was that some of them probably use those translation device and translate word by word and not bother about whatever the English was actually correctly translated.

I really pity the foreigners who visit China and having to read and trying to deciphers those words. If you understand Chinese and English, you will see how hilarious this is...

Daniel 6:3-5

Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent. Finally these men said, "We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God."


MAN OF EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY

This verse was send to me by my wife; it really is an exceptional verse because it highlights one very important aspect of Christian life, which is our life to the non-believers are not judged by the knowledge, our enthusiasm in church, the ministry we participate because non-believers only see God through the way we live our DAILY life.

Just like Daniel, almost 100%of us are either working in the world or are in contact with people who have yet to believe in God, and the worst thing we can do is to live such a bad testimony that non-believers wonder if there is actually a God. I have heard enough testimony’s from non Christian who complain that they know of Christians who gossip a lot, complain and grumble when there is work, Christians who never do their job well, and are constantly obnoxious or constantly failing subjects.

Remember non-Christian are not convicted because you do a lot of ministry but they are convicted because they see how God changed your life to be more gentle, loving, kind and forgiving. It is no wonder that Timothy wrote that before one becomes an overseer, he must first have inner qualities that exudes the flavour of Christ.

In the words from the book of Daniel, I hope that one day when a non-believer scrutinize our life they can write this about you. The words are little modified, to the NEW PAUL TRANSLATION… the blanks are your name … read it as though you are reading about yourself.

Victoria Station Review

STATION FOOD AT RESTAURANT PRICE

Tonight was more of a last minute decision, we decided to try the Victoria Station in Burswood after we went to the VW dealer at Victoria Park. I have been to this particular restaurant twice before and food was reasonable. The atmosphere there was nice, very traditional sixties sort of restaurant.

In summary, if you are trying to impress your girlfriend, in-laws or overseas mates, this place would not be the "to-die-for" place to be, except for the Casino at burswood, which i presume some of the auntie and uncles would go. Beyond this, i can only say the food was typically of what you probably could get in any other restaurant. Simple effective and subtle type of food, that will almost be forgettable once it started, but i must say i think you are probably paying more for the ambiance rather than a top class food.

If you have to much money to burn, then of course by all means, spend your hard earn cash at the place. Now to tell you a little what we ate at the Station

For Starter... some bread and dip....( reasonable, can't see how it can go wrong with bread and oil)




For the 2nd starter ... Oyster Kilpatrick ( 1 dozen... but I think oyster bar serve much better oyster)




The Mains

I was being adventurous so i ordered ... braised rabbit ( My friend's Amely favourite pet... mmmm wonder when we can have more Wabbit meat...... whoaaaaaahahahahh)




This is so-so... taste like chicken

Please give this a miss.... just a piece of meat"... not much to crow about.... i think i prefer meat with a bit of fat... this particular one is pure meat... .if you are dying for some really good steak try HOG's breath ... they are my favourite

Side order ... Caesar Salad ( This dish... you simply cannot go wrong... a few pieces of croûtons, cheese, salad sauce, lettuce and bacon bits. It would have been unforgivable if this one was bad)



So i would give this restaurant a 5.5 for its food, 6.5 for the atmosphere and an AWESOME 8 out of 10 for its price.

Guide : Recommend to someone whom you know has alot of money and don't know much about food.

PS Wagyu beef is sold there if you have loads of money give it a shot and let me know how you think....

Brando's Pizza & Cafe

Just went to review this cafe along Victoria park, this is probably my first Australia Cafe review,
We were planning to go Catalano but was fully booked, so we walked down Victoria abit and found this quaint old cafe near the John Hughes Car yard.

PIZZA

Since it was called pizza and cafe, of course one of the obvious choice was pizza, I ordered Portofino if that was what it was called... the pizza was overall not bad....unfortunately like most pizzas it cannot fight a wood fired pizza. The crust was only so-so... its in between a crispy and original crust. The toppings however i believe was excellent... prawns, pineapple and ham... mmmmmmmmmmm......

MAIN - HONEY SESAME CHICKEN

The Honey chicken was really nice, sweet and crispy on the outside and tasty and moist on the inside. This i can recommend if you go and try. I think it should fit most kids, adults and older adults. Get the wedges instead of the chips.

Service

Typical cafe style, you order at the counter like fast food restaurant, overall was ok, seems like the place has been there for a long time.

Overall - i give it a 6.5 for a cafe. Go and try and tell me what you think of other dishes

Whart Happen in Vegas (2008)

This movie I went without much high expectation, but it turn out to be pretty funny. The combination of Ashton and Cameron was absolutely hilarious. Some scenes are interesting, i was thinking when they were at each other's throat and trying to get the money from each other... " I went ... i would do that ".... hahahaha... If you are in for a good laugh... i can recommend the movie.

The movie script was not too bad, it wasn't too long and tedious and the jokes weren't too corny either. It did not feel too protracted more like a nice easy ride. In a sense the director did make it too ridiculous to believe in the story line.

Overall i would give this a 7.5 for the comedy, here are my favorite comedy's

1. There's something about Mary - I just love the story watch it 10 times... just the overall poor guy and beautiful girl comedy
2. Shallow Hal - very good meaning and morale
3. Kung Pow - Seriously funny especially you watch with all your males friends..., tried watching in a mix group... never works.... the ladies never find it funny
4. Meet the Parents - Not too bad...
5. What Happens in Vegas (2008) .... a funny story
6. Coming to America ... show by eddy murphy... i watch it 8 times....

I would say this are my top few favourite "Comedy movies"if you have not watch either of this ... i recommend it to you...

Interesting fact

Just recently, i discovered a truth that totally blew my mind. If you ever thought that fish were only good for eating, think again. I often thought fishes were no more than good ornamental pieces and a pet which cannot communicate, but a news story about goldfish who can do tricks on demand, certainly blew my mind. And yes it turn out, goldfish can learn tricks how INCREDIBLE !!

THE 2 PILLARS IN ACCOUNTS

I got my new iphone recently and was testing the my camera... the image is not too bad... but not as good as the digital though. Anyhow let me make an introduction to the 2 pillars of the accounts team.

Here is Linah, she sits opposite me and hears all my jokes everyday.... she puts the files across out table so there is a boundary and she can play peek-a-boo with me... Anyway, its good to have a colleague who enjoys your joke, she says.... talk laughing too much makes you put on weight. ....I told her i will make her cry ... hee hee..hopeful that helps.... anyhow, she is a great help in the office... super good worker... glad to have her on board.






Now here is the "'blur queen" ...... as you can see... from her face.... her name is Caroline... and future housewife of Kaefer's 3rd boss in New Zealand. ....hahaha.. please dont ask her... too much
She is trying to be the rock in the accounts...but in accounts... size do matter... too small to handle the pressure... must eat more than the small container she brings....

The Journey Begins

Every journey is a sacrifice where you have to choose path in the crossroad of your life. Every path that you choose is borne out of a decision, every decision made was because of a Vision laid. Dreams are only for dreamers but for those who dare, can turn dreams into reality.

I know the path i have to take, so that i can fulfill the destiny in my life, to fulfill the vision that God placed in my heart. Joy is when you are able to do things you were born to do and in the process bring the gospel into the world.

I visited CHC on Sat, was very tempted to buy the CD called Cultural Mandate, i think its going to be an interesting teaching. My friend David is going to get it for me. Hope its going to be sooner than later. CHC has such a professional set-up, i must say i am impressed by their friendliness and also the presence of God during the worship

On Sunday, i visited Hope and yes... Ps Jeff was preaching once more.... Man I can only say - He truly is a gifted preacher. The teaching really spoke to me... How blunt must God be.... hahahah...
