Adam Lambert lost because of technology

I read many comments and found that in Arkansas where Kris Allen resides, his supporters were using some machine to dial through the votes. I initially thought the reason Adam lost because people voted against him but if the reports were correct, Arkansas a state of 2.8 million people actually managed to vote 38 million times, which seems unbelievable.

Thus Kris Allen win was because someone used the dialing machine to cast the votes and not because he was actually a better singer. I hope AI will start to review the voting process so that it will be fairer to other contestants.

I was thinking either charge more on Voting like $5 a vote and don't allow VOIP calling so people cannot make use of technology to skew the results. That will make people think twice trying to cast votes using technology.

Hopefully he gets his album out soon.

Adam’s Lambert lost was a blessing in disguise.

Adam’s Lambert lost was a blessing in disguise.

I have been following idol for the entire season and I must say in terms of vocal ability Adam Lambert beats the entire contestant hands down. Theatrical or not, if its based on singing range, Adam has the gift, for as long as I can remember, I have yet to find someone who could actually own a Michael Jackson until Adam came along with his take on Black or White.

In fact, the one reason Adam lost was because mathematically he would be voted out, from the time Danny Gokey got kicked out. I knew for sure Danny’s fan will choose Kris over Adam. For Adam, its either you like his style or just simply hate it. Kris won not because he was a better singer or artist, he won because there are also a big bunch of people who would rather see Kris win than Adam because of the preferential treatment given to Adam.

Personally I read some comments which does makes sense, its not important that Adam did not win because if he did , he would probably have to sing the crappy idol song and cannot choose the style he wants to sing. Now since he is not the winner, I am sure record labels will be queuing for his signature.

To me a sign of a great artist is the itune download, if indeed Kris fan’s are plentiful and willing to spend the money to buy his songs. Then its interesting to see that the Top 10 itune download for idols, 8 of them were Adam Lambert’s songs. So it tells me that Adam’s fan really love his music and are willing to spend money to buy his songs.

I for one will be waiting in anticipation for his CD, and those of Danny and Allison … but Kris… mmmm… will leave it to the teeny bopper.

My current pastime

Took sometime to relax today and realise that some of my fav pastime have been watching the American Idol, Looking at new houses and of course feeding and tending the baby.

I think i should look for something else to do but still have no idea what.. it was either learn guitar or learn Thai. Once i get the housing contract settled, i shall embark on this new odyssey and see if i can master another language. At least when 90% of my household talks i can understand... yes.. thats right now i feel like i am living in Thailand. There are 7 people in the house and 6 of them speak thai.. i am the only singaporean. Hallelujah. I think i should go into overdrive to get this language into my vocab.

I have already learned a number of new words.. which is good cause... its a start. So dont be surprised the next time you see me, i shall be fluent in Thai.

Well I set myself 3 months... lets see.

Champions once again

Premier Champions !!! 2008 /09

Liverpool tried their best, but it was not to be... the best team Won.... eventually. Now i shall wait for the much anticipated Barcelona vs. Man U finals.

Three Cheers !!!!

Knowing your baby

My life - Christabelle

My goodness, its been almost a month already and her crying is starting to get longer and longer. You often have to guess what in the world she wants cause unfortunately many parents, baby cannot speak.

I have learned over this 2 months, some interesting habits of babies...and here is my observation
1. If babies are hungry they will suck their hand or move their mouth when they cry

Here is a typically baby reaction when they are hungry...

2. If babies are going to shit ... they will suddenly stop what they are doing and then have a "surprised" look on their face.

Tried to catch "the look" but... not in time.. well you will know when it happens

3. If babies are sleepy, they will yawn and be unresponsive to you

4. If babies just want a hug, it would be usually short cry and noise

5. If babies cry non-stop and have tears coming out... i think you must have done something really wrong..... !!!

I tried to turn her on her belly when she cries too much.. one it gives her some belly-time.. as recommended by the doctor.. secondly it usually stop her from crying... too loudly...

Thats all for now.....

Singapore Aware SAGA

I have read and follow with great amusement recently with the AWARE sage. On side, christian the other side Feminist and Lesbian Activist.

I think though people who voted out the Christian members need to realise that if their Vote was a religious issue, then they have missed out the point. The point is the feminist movement promoted seriously immoral stand which would not go well with other religion. Lesbianism is not an accepted behaviour in any religion. Sometimes people take rights to far

I think certain issues must never be brought up in a teaching or social environment because it is bound to stir up sentiments. I am shocked to see MOE allowing Lesbian issues taught in the public system, when Singapore specifically prohibits such acts.

Below is report from Newpaper

From ignorance to OUTRAGE
For 2 years, parents didn't know about Aware's sexuality programme. Then events unravelled over the last 7 days
By Benson Ang and Han Yongming
May 09, 2009 Print Ready Email Article

FOR two years, the Association of Women for Action and Research (Aware) conducted sexuality workshops and talks to schools, and he did not complain.

Now Mr Twoon Kok Yam, 50, the vice-president of a shipyard, feels strongly enough to sign an online petition against such programmes in school.

One good thing coming out of the Aware saga, said Mr Twoon, was that it brought this programme out into the open.

He learnt that anal sex and homosexuality were represented as neutral in these programmes, as recommended by Singapore's foremost feminist organisation. (See report on right of facing page.)

Mr Twoon has two sons, 21 and 19, and one daughter, 14, in Secondary 2.

'Anal sex. Pre-martial sex. Orgasm. Is this suitable material to be taught to my daughter?' he asked.

'Students' minds are very impressionable, and they think whatever is taught in schools is correct.'

'But the messages behind such programmes may not be agreeable to everyone.'

Mr Twoon's wife, production planner Grace Goh, 48, added: 'Kids always want to try things out. What if they try this, and it becomes too late for them to turn back?'

Like all parents, they worry that their children will be subject to bad influences, like booze, drugs and promiscuity.

For MrTwoon, the family - involving a heterosexual couple - is still the basic unit of society.

When MOE suspended the programme, he was relieved.

So was housewife Mun Ho Pheng, 50, who also signed the petition.

She has a daughter, 15, in a girls' school and didn't even know that some sexuality programmes were being taught in schools by external parties, like Aware, the Singapore Planned Parenthood Association and the Family Life Society.

She thought only teachers taught MOE-approved programmes to students.

The online petition to MOE was started by Madam KF Khoo last week, who was concerned that Aware's Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) programme indirectly endorsed homosexuality and anal sex as 'normal' or 'neutral'.

The online petition has since garnered more than 7,400 signatures, although it is unknown if unique individuals are behind each signature or if the numbers are being racked up by a few activists.

Aware was recently involved in a leadership tussle between the veteran members and new members who were elected to the executive committee (exco) during Aware's annual general meeting in March.

The fight was played out in the media and culminated in an extraordinary meeting last Saturday, where a vote of no-confidence was passed, and the new exco resigned soon after.

The Aware exco was then replaced by veteran members.

But since Aware's new guard drew attention to what they saw as pro-lesbian and pro-gay sentiments in the CSE programme last week, MOE has received about 100 e-mails and phone calls expressing similar sentiments as the petition.

On Wednesday, MOE suspended the CSE programme conducted by Aware and other vendors and explained that it is 'reviewing ways to provide parents with more information about sexuality education in the specific schools their children are in.'

Aware responds

In a letter to Aware members yesterday, president Dana Lam-Teo said she stands by Aware's CSE programme.

She claimed MOE found certain responses in the programme to be 'explicit and inappropriate'.

She then said: 'We are prepared to review these (responses) and make any changes so long as the principles and objectives of the CSE are not compromised.

'We hope to be able to resume the CSE programme before long.'

Children need to be educated about sex. Like parents need to be educated about sex education, it seems.

They cared but...

IF they cared so much about the CSE programme, why didn't they attend the Aware extraordinary general meeting (EGM) last Saturday?

Mr Twoon Kok Yam said that although he applauded ousted president Josie Lau's team for highlighting aspects of Aware's sexuality programme, he felt that her team could have managed their internal affairs more effectively.

He also didn't attend because he was busy with church on that day.

On the other flip side is 59-year-old nurse Ow Yeong Sou Yong, who is single and has no children. She also didn't attend the EGM although she supported the old guard.

She said: 'I'd prefer Aware to be run by a multi-cultural, multi-religious exco instead of only Chinese Christians.

'But that still doesn't change the fact that I don't agree with the sexuality programme the way it is now,' she said.

Statements in guide deemed...

NON-CONTROVERSIAL

VIOLENCE: Unacceptable in a relationship, whatever the provocation may be.

PILL: The Pill is used to reduce the chances of pregnancy. However, it does not protect you from infection.

SEXY/HOT: All very personal concepts - what is hot for you may not be hot for another person - there is no universal definition of hot. What is more important is that the person feels good about herself.

CONTROVERSIAL

ANAL SEX: Can be healthy or neutral if practised with consent and with a condom.

VIRGINITY: A concept which is really difficult to fix, traditionally virginity is related to the hymen. But perhaps we can also think of virginity as a state of mind?

PRE-MARITAL SEX: People might place pre-marital sex as negative, but it is really neutral. The key is whether the couple is aware of the consequences and responsibilities and is ready for them.

Brit wins 'best job in the world'

This job would have been great for my brother Kris.....

Brit wins 'best job in the world'
May 08, 2009 Print Ready Email Article

A BUNGEE jumping, ostrich-riding British charity worker was named the winner of what has been dubbed the 'Best Job in the World' - a six-month contract to serve as caretaker of an Australian island.

WELL DONE: Winner Ben Southall (right) of Britain is congratulated by Greg Reynen (left) of Singapore. PICTURE: AFP

Mr Ben Southall, 34, beat nearly 35,000 applicants from around the world for the dream assignment to swim, explore and relax on Hamilton Island in the Great Barrier Reef while writing a blog to promote the area.

He was selected for the A$150,000 ($165,000) gig by officials from the tourism department of Queensland state.

Mr Southall and 15 other finalists spent the past four days on the island for an extended interview process, which required applicants to snorkel through crystalline waters, gorge themselves at a beachside barbecue and relax at a spa.

One of the finalists was Singapore-based Greg Reynen, 31, who teaches at the Singapore American School.

They also had to demonstrate their blogging abilities, take swimming tests and sit through in-person interviews.

The job is part of a A$1.7 million tourism campaign to publicise the charms of northeastern Queensland, and officials say it has already generated more than A$110 million worth of publicity for the region.

It quickly became a viral marketing hit, spreading quickly across the world via YouTube and social networking sites such as Facebook.

As part of his 60-second application video Mr Southall showed footage of himself riding an ostrich in Africa and being kissed by a leopard, before driving off into the sunset yelling: 'If it's the best job in the world, then I'm off to the best place in the world.'

Controversies

Said Queensland Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor in a statement: 'From the time he was announced in the Top 50, and then the Top 16, Ben has excelled in showing a true passion for Queensland.

'His ideas for how he will make the role his own... plus his initiative and ability to rise to a challenge impressed the selection panel and secured his place in the top job.'

The contest also attracted a fair bit of scandal since it was unveiled in January.

First, the website crashed due to a deluge of visitors, angering many who couldn't lodge their video applications.

Later, the tourism department was forced to admit it had created a popular video 'application' showing a woman apparently getting a tattoo expressing her love of the Great Barrier Reef.

Then one finalist was ousted after it was revealed she had connections to the adult entertainment industry.

And a prankster identifying himself as Al-Qaeda's terrorist leader, Osama bin Laden, posted a video of himself on YouTube reciting reasons why he was the best pick for the job.

Mr Southall plans to bring his Canadian girlfriend with him to the island for the duration of the job.

He starts 'work' on 1 Jul.

American Idol Finale

Yes, after months of watching Idol, its finally down to the final 3. I was a little sad Allison got kicked out but what can i say, Kris and Danny have more fans than Allison.

Now as of course, my favorite is still Adam Lambert, as he had more songs that I would buy then Kris or Allen. For me I initially supported Danny but during the whole competition, nothing really stood out, as for Kris he had one song that really had me impressed and i would consider listening which is " she works hard for the money" which i think was unique and beautifully arranged.

The problem with most of the contestant i think is that they dont have the range to compete with Adam. Like it or hate, I have heard adam singing Broadway and his voice is amazing - check out Bridgadoon. Danny tries to do an Adam but went horribly wrong

Danny's voice reminds me of Nat King Cole and Rod Stewart husky and with the rough edge. He can also do the rock but would be limited. I still don't know what genre he would go for. But i think R&B or Soul would suit him

Kris on the other hand reminds me of teeny booper Artist, a bit like Richard Marx or Southern Sons What would suit him is something more ballad. I dont think he is an Adam and should never try.

I know there are many Danny and Kris fans, i suppose its the winning now that counts but how you are going to package yourself. Danny and Kris have their strength. But vocally, they can't compete with Adam - like him or hate him, He knows how to work the stage.

I think what stood out for me is he has a inhumanly high register. Like i say, not many people can sing Michael Jackson. During that week, only he impressed me with Black or White.. I knew he would be someone to watch .

I think his voice would really suit rock, his voice range is where I can say would suit Gun's and Roses, Queen or even the King of Pop.

I would definitely buy his albums.. cannot wait ... already have most of his idol songs...
